The
formulation of our company is relatively new but our people,
product, and vision have a significant amount of history.
It started in 1990 with a startup company named VDS
(Visionary Design Systems).
VDS was a mechanical CAD systems integration company headquartered in
Santa Clara, CA. They
introduced a concept called “Vision2000” that addressed
the problem of how Engineering departments could get their
engineering information out to the rest of the world.
They acquired a company named 3D/Eye in 1997 and
unveiled their “E-Engineering” product that provided
lightweight viewing capabilities.
In 1998, they released an “easy to use”
mechanical CAD product named IronCAD.
As the Internet emerged onto the corporate desktop, a
new vision was conceived to offer a lightweight viewing
technology as a web-based collaboration solution.
Alventive was born and all company focus was
concentrated on this new revolutionary effort.
"Alventive" was the name of the company,
and "Alventive" was also the name of the product.
To be the first
to deliver this type of a solution to the market, Alventive
raised venture capital money and the company grew from 30
employees to over 200 employees in a short 6 months. It was in this timeframe that Alventive started buying other
small companies to achieve their growth need.
One of the companies they acquired was a Pittsburgh
based company named C&C Solutions Inc.
BlueSky's current president, Chad Poole, was a 50%
owner and operator of C&C Solutions Inc.
When C&C Solutions Inc was acquired by Alventive,
Chad became part of the management team at Alventive.
Alventive released the first version of their product
in 2000 with the most recent version (5.0) being released in
2003.
In
the first half of 2003, Alventive was experiencing financial
problems and continued to lay off their employees.
BlueSky Solutions was formed in the second quarter or
2003 from employees who used to work for Alventive.
Alventive made the announcement in June of 2003 that
they were "ceasing operations".
They laid off all employees and could no longer
support their current customer base.
At that point, BlueSky Solutions worked with
Alventive's executives to be the company officially managing
the existing customer accounts while Alventive executives
prepared to sell their intellectual property and company
assets. A
closed-bid auction took place in November of 2003 and
BlueSky Solutions won the bid. BlueSky
Solutions became an LLC in January of 2004 and the
transaction took place giving BlueSky ownership of
Alventive's intellectual property, company assets, and
customer contracts.
